History of Casa Wilkirk

In Spanish casa means house. My name is Keith Selkirk Wille. My mother was Veryl Selkirk. My father was Horace Wille. From those names comes Wilkirk. Now that you understand the property name, let me explain the significance of Casa Wilkirk.

The house boasts post and beam construction throughout. Coming from virgin Ottawa Valley white pine which I have hand hewn from this property. Ceramics, hard woods and carpet cover the 7000 sq feet. The architectural features throughout have been influenced by a lifetime of international work assignments, including those to South America, Africa, Australia, Indonesia and the Canadian Arctic.

Collectibles from around the world are displayed throughout Wilkirk. These include African masks, a Calabash shell xylophone, various prints, Machu Pichu tapestry, oil paintings, carvings, Conquistador armour and other unique furniture items and artifacts.

Many next generation building techniques have been utilized throughout the structure. R2000 values have been achieved, balloon framing, energy efficient windows and extraordinary insulating techniques. Two air exchangers ensure a constant supply of filtered air. Water is supplied by a spring fed well.

A visit to Wilkirk is a memorable time spent away from your busy lifestyle. Wilkirk runs on a 24/7 timetable. Come relax as the river takes you away. There is a therapeutic quality about this property that stimulates the senses. The waterfront area is in the construction stage as well as professionally designed landscaping throughout the 2.2 acres that encompass Wilkirk.

Although Wilkirk is situated in the heart of the town of Petawawa your privacy is unencumbered by the local population. The world continues on around Wilkirk and life here remains unaffected. Canadian Forces Base Petawawa is 50 meters across the captivating river with a well forested rising hillside. Your privacy is ensured.

150 years ago the Petawawa River was one of the main tributaries utilized for massive logging operations. Historic remnants of this by gone era can still be experienced today. This early timber supplied England with a constant supply of timber for its Navy. The early explorers, including Samuel de Champlain, mapped and used this river for expanding trade routes. The Algonquin First Nations people greeted and aided these explorers. The river will cast its magical spell like a magnet. It wants to keep you here. The sights and sounds of wild nature will captivate you. The ever present chi of the Petawawa River provides the owner with a perpetual supply of energy, ambition and imagination to continue this personal challenge. Like the Phoenix, Wilkirk rises and spreads its wings along nature’s artistically carved river bank.
